Dubai is set to revolutionize urban transport with the launch of flying taxis, confirmed by the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) for early 2026. Initial flights will connect key landmarks, including Dubai International Airport, Downtown Dubai, Dubai Marina, and Palm Jumeirah. Developed in collaboration with JOBY Aviation and Skyports Infrastructure, the air taxis aim to offer a quick, eco-friendly alternative to traditional transport.
The vertiports, designed for vertical takeoff and landing, are under development, with the first located at Dubai International Airport. Future plans include expanding services to connect Dubai and Abu Dhabi, making flying taxis a regular part of the city’s transport network. Each aircraft, equipped with six rotors for enhanced safety, will be electric-powered, ensuring quieter operations and zero emissions during flights.
Ticket prices are expected to be comparable to Uber Black rides but significantly faster, with a 10-minute journey from DXB to Palm Jumeirah replacing a 45-minute car ride. Passengers can book rides through the Uber app, and flights will operate at altitudes of 1,000 to 3,000 feet, allowing uninterrupted mobile connectivity. With rigorous testing underway, Dubai’s flying taxis promise a safe, efficient, and futuristic mode of transport.
