Dubai’s MGM Resort is one of the city’s most highly anticipated hospitality developments, with its opening now scheduled for the third quarter of 2028. MGM CEO Bill Hornbuckle confirmed the updated timeline during the company’s earnings call, reaffirming that construction remains on track. Once complete, the development is expected to introduce three globally recognised hotel brands to Dubai.
Located on The Island by Wasl, a 3.5 million-square-metre man-made island off Umm Suqeim near Burj Al Arab, the USD2.5 billion destination is set to become a major waterfront leisure hub. Originally announced in 2017, the project resumed momentum in 2023 after Wasl awarded the main construction contract to China State Construction Engineering Corporation. The large-scale development will combine luxury hospitality, entertainment, and lifestyle experiences in one destination.
The resort will feature approximately 1,400 rooms across three flagship hotels: MGM Grand, Bellagio, and Aria, marking the brands’ debut in Dubai. While there has been speculation about the possibility of a casino, no gaming licence has been confirmed for the project. MGM has expressed interest in future opportunities, but, for now, the resort remains focused on its luxury accommodation, dining, and entertainment offerings.
