Dubai is expanding its metro network with the launch of the new Blue Line, set to open in 2029. Announced by the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), the AED 20.5 billion project will mark the Dubai Metro’s 20th anniversary. Once operational, the line is expected to serve 200,000 daily passengers, with capacity projected to rise to 320,000 by 2040.
The Blue Line will feature 14 stations—nine above ground and five underground—spanning 30 kilometers. It will connect key areas including Dubai Creek, Festival City, International City, Al Rashidiya, Al Warqa, Mirdif, Silicon Oasis, and Academic City. The line will also integrate with the Red Line at Centrepoint Station and the Green Line at Al Khor Station, offering improved connectivity across the city.
Work officially began in 2024, with safety measures being coordinated by the RTA and Dubai Police. The route was initially revealed by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum in 2023. A consortium of Turkish and Chinese construction firms has been appointed to deliver the project, which is designed to support Dubai’s growing population under the Urban Master Plan 2040.
