Guggenheim Abu Dhabi will officially open to the public on December 11, 2026, marking a major milestone for Saadiyat Cultural District. Located on Saadiyat Island, the museum will become one of Abu Dhabi’s most significant destinations for modern and contemporary art. Its opening adds another major cultural landmark to the capital’s growing arts scene.
The museum’s collection will focus on art from the 1960s to the present day, featuring works by artists from across the world. Rather than following a traditional chronological format, its galleries will explore themes including abstraction, storytelling, popular culture, language and land. The programme will also include exhibitions, commissions, research projects and multilingual cultural initiatives.
Designed by renowned architect Frank Gehry, Guggenheim Abu Dhabi will feature 30 galleries connected by a central atrium, alongside indoor and outdoor exhibition spaces. The building spans more than 80,000 square metres and includes distinctive sculptural cones rising up to 88 metres. Its arrival further strengthens Saadiyat Cultural District alongside Louvre Abu Dhabi and the island’s other major museums and cultural attractions.
