Jumeirah Burj Al Arab is currently closed for a major restoration programme, marking its first significant refurbishment since opening in December 1999. The landmark hotel, known for its sail-shaped architecture and prominent position on a private island, temporarily closed in April 2026. It is scheduled to reopen in October 2027.
French interior architect Tristan Auer is leading the restoration, with a focus on preserving the hotel’s original character while introducing contemporary upgrades. Signature materials including gold leaf, Statuario marble and Swarovski crystal are expected to remain, alongside bespoke fabrics, refined finishes and discreet new technology. The project is designed to enhance the interiors without losing the identity that has defined the property for more than two decades.
The refurbishment forms part of Jumeirah’s wider effort to protect the heritage and design legacy of Burj Al Arab while preparing it for a new chapter. Auer, whose portfolio includes major luxury hotels and landmark properties in Europe, is bringing a restoration-led approach to the project. When the hotel reopens in October 2027, guests can expect refreshed interiors that retain many of its most recognisable design elements.
